Anyone who knows Gina, knows that she is an extremely fun, optimistic, and lighthearted gal--despite her medical history! :)
In 2008--just months after giving birth to her second child, Gina found her first tumor (GIST). After having it removed, (and after taking medication daily) she had remained cancer free for 4+ years.
In September of this year (2012) she went in for a yearly mammogram and discovered that she now has another cancer--Breast Cancer. Unfortunately the cancer was more aggressive than was originally thought and had spread to two lymph-nodes. In October she underwent a mastectomy on her right breast, but continues to keep her sense of humor through it all calling herself the "One-Boob-Wonder."
At the end of November she will begin a 4 month regiment of Chemotherapy. She will finish the 16 week regiment just after her 42nd birthday.
Gina is married to her number one supporter-Corey and is the mother of two adorable children, Carlie (8) and Berkely (4). In order to help support her through these next months, an account has been set up on this blog. Anyone who is a parent knows how hard it can be to keep on top of daily tasks--even when you're feeling well--imagine trying to raise a family while going through Chemo.
The goal of this blog is to help raise some money so that Gina and her family's load can be lightened! All funds that are raised will go towards a housekeeper (who has been hired bi-monthly--which is intended to help ease some of the cleaning burden) and to help cover the costs of the additional medical expenses that they will have because of the cancer.
Since a number of friends/family of Gina's have expressed an interest to help and to stay connected with Gina's story, hopefully this blog will help aid in that desire. Even small amounts add up.
If you are unable to contribute financially, please, please remember Gina and her family in your prayers! Prayers can be just as powerful!
